fostering fun day

The Summer Event by SR

With a grey sky and rain threatening it did not deter the avid carers north and south to come together on a field to play games and eat sausages!

The scene was set. The cows had moved on to the next field or got shoved out (I’m not sure) on the delightful farm of L and V in downtown - somewhere near Okehampton.

Balloons were swaying, the bouncy castle blown up (not literally) and K arrived with the Gazebo and more importantly food! Swanning around the field, she set the scene for the games day.

In the left field we had the swing ball, garden draughts, jenga, bats and balls! In the right field we had the tug of war rope, cricket, football and the volleyball.

To the side we had tables and chairs, nicely decorated with helium balloons (only one got away!!) and more importantly food! That I mention that again??
And let’s us not forget the fantastic face painting operating from somewhere in a shed!

Back to the food! The barbeque began. The aroma of chicken and sausages, onion and beef burgers were burning—oops I didn’t mean to disrespect V’s cooking!

Whilst munching on the creamy salads with bread rolls and thank you Mrs D for the scrumptious cakes/puddings. We all enjoyed those!! The scene was set for the quiz. P has always tried to persuade us in the support team that he can drum up a quick quiz, inviting us to consider the size of his quiz intellect but I sometimes wonder if that’s just about Pink Floyd? However I was pleasantly surprised as to the quality of questions although the SOS question—come on—did anybody get that right? I protested to the answer he gave, when we had all completed the paperwork but I can’t remember what that was now - however I don’t care as our table came second anyway. The ones who won obliviously copied our answers and got one extra right!

The games really got into action as the tug of war was clearly won by the girls with a little help from V!

The football was 5 a side and clearly a well fought, sweat dripping event. The cricket suited the more relaxed members of our group - I feel. But all in all fun was had and the food!!!!

Well all I can say is a very big thank you to Karen—who worked marvels at being the hostess, constantly cleaning and clearing as the day went along and to L and V for the use of their farm and all the helpers who assisted and thank you to all the carers and kids for sharing a really great day!
