Leaving Home—A Young Persons
View
This piece of writing describes how one young
person felt when she left home to go into care:
I was quite frightened when my mum told
me to go outside to a car. It’s freaky to
be taken somewhere else.
What is foster care all about?
Foster care is when you are taken away from your
mother and your father because of different reasons.
Some because people are ill, so you get taken
away, so you stay at a foster home for two years
like I did, then I had to say goodbye to my friends.
I then went somewhere else to live.
However people feel, your mum probably thought
sending you away is a good idea, so she will be
happy, but you might think you disagree which
is bad.
Don't be sad
Don't be sad!
Foster care is supposed to take you away but tries
to make you happy. Sometimes we go out to places.
Don't be scared you will be scared but soon you
find out its fun.

Another poem to describe the feelings for leaving
home and going into care:
When I was ten my life had changed.
I stayed with families of a different range
My heart felt hurt
My eyes were full of tears
What will happen to me were my fears
Why was it me that had to go into care
My life it seems so bare
Once again my life is to go a different way
New school, new home
Which way will I roam
The future for me is undecided
But I know that I'll be strong regardless.
